The way I choose to sift through this music game is to constantly be on the lookout for the hottest ‘non-mainstream’ artists out here. Curren$y, coming out of New Orleans, is part of the newer generation of rappers blessing consumers with new lanes to travel for lyrical and musical enjoyment. At one point he was running with No Limit and then Weezy and the Young Money crew, in its early days, but has since moved on to work on cultivating his own persona as a MC, mainly on the underground scene with his own crew ‘Fly Society’ (Plane Gang/Jets) and several mixtapes. He also has ties to Dame Dash with the Dash’s ‘DD172’ project, which is essentially an artistic collective of creativity, located in a building in downtown Manhattan. But, let us keep the focus where it belongs and welcome the homie Curren$y , as he has blessed us with what is probably considered his most anticipated album to date, Pilot Talk, on July 13, 2010. This released under the ‘DD172’ music label ‘BluRoc Records’. Curren$y always comes with the creative, lazy, generally intuitive flow, that makes you think and takes you to a ‘higher’ level of thinking (if you know how he gets down, then you know high has a double meaning). This is definitely ride, smoke, drink, or whatever your personal vice is kind of music. You are going to get musical tracks that bear NO similarity to what is currently out on the airwaves for mass consumption. And you are going to get flows that refrain from the topics that have long ruled the day in the majority of rap circles (violence, selling drugs, disrespecting women, etc.). Music is so wide open, that there is something out there for everybody and this is the direction I am going in with my listening habits. Im signing off on this release and want you to give it. Support GOOD music. Let us know what you think. GO!!!!
