Derty Den Mixtape picture

North Carolina artist Derty Den is making heads bob and turn with his new single Fly Shyt featuring Gorilla Zoe.  But as the title of his forthcoming street album suggest "Carolina Ain't Enough".

Q: Hey Derty Den! You from North Carolina what’s the music scene like out there?

A: Well the music scene in Carolina is very fresh ,very new, kind of like the new york scene was in the early 90's yet its very diverse. A lot of colleges, expand the diversity of the people here.

Q: What qualities and song concepts do you bring to the rap game?derty_den1.jpg

A: All different angles the thing is i really dont believe in goin in just to record a certain type song. It has to be the right timing. But many of my records depends on the mood im in or whats on my mind i address it.

Q: How did you get your first break in the music industry?

A: Well i always been around connected people, it was all a matter of me being ready when i actually finished up my first solo mixtape thats what kind of did it. It gave the people i dealt wit the ammunition they needed to believe in what i was doin, its crazy cuz i had my first deal in 1999 with a label out of Philly.

Q: At the moment you’ve got the smash hit single ‘Fly Shyt’ featuring Gorilla Zoe. Tell us about the track and how the collaboration came about?

A: Well its a crazy buzz song especially in the club. How it came about, my man Kevin from Atlanta actually knew Block. He was feelin my shit and asked me to shoot down to The A and we knocked it out. Shout out to Gorilla Zoe and Block Ent. I mean...we went in the studio and it happened just lack that.

Q: Besides this track what else have you released?

A: I am currently in the process of dropping my new mixtape-album entitled 'Carolina Aint Enough'. It is set for release later this yearand is hosted by DJ Ike Gda. Its another classic piece of work and also my southern dynasty mixtape hosted by DJ HITZ...I'm in over drive right now!!!

Q: ‘Fly Shyt’ is taken from your new mixtape which will be dropping soon called ‘Southern Dynasty’ hosted by DJ Hitz. Can you tell us about the mixtape?

A: Southern Dynasty speaks for itself. It is a project with my team and is the follow up to the GDA mixtape which did very good moving over 6000 units in  the streets. We definatly workin hard out here...haha.

derty_den2.jpgQ: Are mixtapes still a good promotional tool to help get your name out there?

A: Honestly it is a great way to get your name out cuz people can actually see what u can do before you actually do it. A mixtape in North Carolina is like a flyer with music. So the ‘Southern Dynasty’ mixtape will gear us all up for your album which will be dropping later on this year.

Q: How’s the album coming along?

A: Well its 85 percent done like I said more classic music a garunteed play through. I stayed around the raw street hiphop essence from a southern point of view. Its crazy!!!

Q: Will it be coming out on G.I.T Records?

A: of course G.I.T. is the future of hip hop..haha

Q: Do you have a title for it?

A: "Carolina Aint Enough" - meaning I actually see the big picture and I cant be held back or placed in one category very deep.

Q: Congratulations for winning ‘Best Southern Rapper’ award at the Underground Music Awards, how did that feel?

A: That felt great to be nominated and then actually win is some shit thats out of this world. I still can't believe it. Coming from NC, still residing there and to win such an award at such a event... I still can't believe it!!!

Q:So next for you is a Grammy right!?

A: lol...hey the sky is the limit right now!!

Q: What other accomplishments have you achieved so far in the music biz? derty_den3.jpg

A: I also won the 2009 NCUMA Lyricist of The Year and secured two strong endorsements so far with Stall and Dean and Flud watches. I was Breeding Ground for Allhiphop, Next 2 Blow for RapUS magazine(largest in Europe), Patiently Waiting for Ozone magazine... I been working.

Q: What are your hopes and aspirations for your music career?

A: To be all I can be baby!!!!

Q: Do you want to shout out your MySpace and website pages?

A: www.myspace.com/dirtydengit www.dertyden.com www.twitter.com/dertyden or just google me...lol Thanks for taking the time out to do the interview.
