Think the recession is only bad for the big banks? Apparently fashion empires are not immune. Liz Claiborne bought Enyce for $114M back in 2003. Now Enyce belongs to Sean “Diddy” Combs who purchased the label for a mere $20M.
Diddy, who has a history of putting the Midas Touch on most things he is involved with, has a formidable task in reviving the once popular Enyce Clothing Line. Prior to being brought by Liz Claiborne Enyce was established in New York by Evan Davis, Lando Felix, and Tony Shellman.
Many people won’t remember the brands initial launch and reception as comfortable streetwear drawing the name from New York City’s initials and phonetic pronunciation. It will be up to Combs’s marketing experts and product placement prowess to bring the label in to the Sean Jean Empire and bring prestige back.
