Three of Charlotte's most closely followed event promotion teams go head to head on Memorial Day Weekend with stellar events planned.
It’s been said before that there is nothing to do in Charlotte. Perhaps ten years ago that was the case. Today, you simply aren’t in the loop if you are constantly wondering what there is to do around the city.
Case in point – Memorial Day Weekend – three events, three of the City’s premiere venues, and three of Charlotte’s most high-powered and successful promotion outfits going head to head. Inner Circle Events, perhaps the front runner, launches Catch 52 on Sunday May 25th at Alley Cat. Blocks away at Charlotte’s newest (but still failing) pop nightclub HOM, The Sol Kitchen presents “Budget ‘08” as a play on rising gas and food prices with the tag line “Cheap is Chic in ‘08”. Six Figure Entertainment presents it Memorial Day at Loft 1523. Head to head, one night all, winner takes bragging rights as Charlotte’s premiere event promotion team.
The Venues
The Sol Kitchen at HOM
HOM, formerly known as Ménage, combines three different venues. There is the restaurant named Feast. Beneath is the basement lounge Liv. And on the top floor you find the club, Play. HOM is non-smoking but has plenty of patio space to toke up. HOM is located on 5th Street in Uptown Charlotte.
Inner Circle Events at The Alley Cat
Usually you’ll find the rock and roll types here. There is plenty of space for live music and the patio allows you to overlook College Street, see and be seen. Formerly Have A Nice Day Café, the new Alley Cat is completely remodeled so don’t be turned off by the fact that this used to be a teeny bar.
Six Figure Entertainment at Loft 1523
Loft is perhaps the nicest martini bar in Charlotte if not simply the best located, decorated and newest. Loft is also a non-smoking venue but the view of Uptown Charlotte from the balcony is unparalleled so smokers and non-smokers alike will spend most of their time star gazing.
The Venue Edge has to go to The Sol Kitchen at HOM. With three floors you won’t get bored and can easily change scenery. The restaurant has a European café feel with floor to ceiling windows. The lounge furniture in the basement and outside patio are worth the price of admission. And, this could be one of your last opportunities to see HOM open (that’s out secret).
The Reps
The Sol Kitchen has been honored by the Creative Loafing and the Charlotte Observer. Heading up the group is Kitch, someone who has been held for a while as the biggest name in Charlotte’s urban underground scene. Kitch has teamed with numerous sponsors to hold mega events that were free to the public. An example is Pop Life held each Wednesday at Loft 1523. He has brought numerous talents to Charlotte and his reputation is well intact.
Inner Circle Events Simply go to their web page, click on the gallery, and scroll through the flyers and pictures of event after event this team has done in the area. Chances are you’ve been to one. Inner Circle brings them out. The males and the females all dressed to kill and not just in sportcoats and black dresses. These folks can dress. Trendsetters will be in the building if there is an Inner Circle event. ICE also pops the cherry on many of Charlotte’s most exclusively held venues. This time is no different as Alley Cat has never been hip to an urban format.
Six Figure Entertainment SFE may be more of an upstart than their competitors but they have managed to pull together a very large and loyal following. Relatively their clientele may be a bit younger than Kitchen or ICE but they are sill over twenty-one and still young urban professionals. New to the game in a sense but very well connected in the nightlife community. They have the right people and the right number of people.
The Rep Edge has to go to Inner Circle Events for consistently throwing events that sell out each month. True. The events may get overcrowded but if you are single, new to the area or the promoters themselves, then that’s a good problem to have. You can bank on their event being near or at capacity unless a cyclone lands in Charlotte over Memorial Day Weekend.
